The Prolite® Adjustable Relief Saddle Pad is a versatile saddle fitting aid designed to make temporary adjustments to saddle balance while helping improve comfort for both horse and rider. Ideal for horses that are changing shape through training, growth, rehabilitation or seasonal condition, the pad allows a qualified saddle fitter or knowledgeable owner to make minor, temporary alterations until the saddle can be professionally adjusted or reflocked.

The pad features front and rear shim pockets, allowing specially shaped Prolite® shims to be inserted or removed to alter the balance of the saddle. Each pad is supplied with one set of thin shims, with additional thin or thick shims available separately to provide greater adjustment where required.

Improve Saddle Balance

Correct saddle balance is essential for rider position, horse comfort and even pressure distribution. The Prolite® Adjustable Relief Pad enables the saddle to be temporarily balanced by raising either the front or rear of the saddle where necessary.

If a saddle has become too wide at the front, the pommel may sit too low, reducing wither clearance and causing the cantle to lift. By inserting thicker front shims, the effective width of the saddle can be reduced by approximately one gullet width, restoring balance and improving wither clearance until permanent saddle adjustments can be made.

Likewise, if the saddle sits low at the rear, often due to insufficient rear panel support or changes in the horse's musculature, rear shims can be inserted to lift the back of the saddle into a more balanced position. This helps promote more even panel contact and reduces excessive pressure towards the rear of the saddle.
