Platting horses for shows or days hunting is a way of presenting your horse at its best with neat plaits evenly spaced and ideally of uniform size which means having a mane that is on uniform length and thickness so that this can be achieved.
Thread is a way of sewing the plaits into the mane as opposed to using elastic bands that often fall out especially if rubbed by the riders chest while taking a fence.
