Bombers Williams Happy Tongue Bit

Independent Rein Options with Outstanding Tongue Relief

The Bombers Williams Happy Tongue combines the renowned Happy Tongue mouthpiece with the versatile Williams cheekpiece, offering riders the flexibility to alter the bit's action by selecting different rein positions while maintaining exceptional tongue relief.

The Happy Tongue features a solid, anatomically curved mouthpiece with a generous central port designed to reduce tongue pressure. By creating additional space for the tongue, the mouthpiece encourages many horses to relax through the jaw and seek a softer, more consistent contact. It is particularly well suited to horses that object to tongue pressure or show signs of discomfort in more conventional mouthpieces.

The Williams cheekpiece provides two rein attachment options, allowing the rider to tailor the bit's action to the horse's requirements. When the reins are attached to the large main ring, the bit functions much like a loose ring, encouraging freedom of movement and a softer feel. Attaching the reins to the lower ring introduces a degree of poll pressure, encouraging flexion at the poll and providing additional influence when required.

The design of the Williams cheekpiece also offers greater lateral guidance than a standard loose ring, helping to support steering and reduce the risk of falling out through the shoulder, making it a useful option for horses that require improved straightness.

Our Assessment

Many horses that object to tongue pressure show a noticeable improvement when changed to a mouthpiece that provides greater tongue relief. However, these behaviours can also be influenced by dental health, oral conformation, training, rider balance, saddle fit or physical discomfort. Selecting the most appropriate bit should always take into account the horse's individual anatomy, way of going and the rider's requirements, rather than relying on behaviour alone.
