Bombers Happy Tongue Full Cheek Bit
Maximum Lateral Guidance with Exceptional Tongue Relief
The Bombers Happy Tongue Full Cheek combines the anatomically designed Happy Tongue mouthpiece with the precise steering and lateral guidance of a traditional Full Cheek (Fulmer) cheekpiece. This combination makes it an excellent choice for young horses, schooling and horses that benefit from greater directional support while remaining comfortable in the contact.
The Happy Tongue features a solid, ergonomically curved mouthpiece with a generous central port that creates additional space for the tongue. As the rein contact is applied, pressure is distributed primarily across the bars within the interdental space while significantly reducing pressure over the tongue. This design is particularly beneficial for horses that are sensitive to tongue pressure or prefer the consistent feel of a solid mouthpiece.
The development of the Happy Tongue was inspired by horses displaying behaviours commonly associated with tongue discomfort, such as head shaking, tongue evasions or inconsistent acceptance of the contact. Whilst these behaviours may indicate sensitivity to tongue pressure, they should always be considered alongside the horse's oral conformation, dental health, saddle fit and overall way of going.
Why Choose a Full Cheek?
The Full Cheek provides all the stability of a fixed-cheek bit while offering substantially greater lateral guidance than an Eggbutt.
The extended upper and lower arms help support turning aids by acting against the outside of the horse's face during steering, making the bit particularly valuable when schooling young horses or improving straightness and accuracy. The design also helps reduce the likelihood of the mouthpiece being drawn through the mouth during turning movements.
The fixed cheek design provides a stable feel within the horse's mouth while helping to minimise lip pinching and maintain consistent positioning of the mouthpiece.

Blue Sweet Iron Mouthpiece
Bombers Bits are manufactured from Blue Sweet Iron, a ferrous alloy that naturally oxidises when exposed to moisture. This oxidation creates the characteristic blue-grey finish and a sweet-tasting surface that encourages many horses to salivate, supporting relaxation and acceptance of the bit.
The blue finish will gradually wear as the mouthpiece develops its natural protective patina. This is an expected characteristic of Blue Sweet Iron and does not affect the bit's performance.
Competition Use
This bit is currently permitted under British Dressage rules when fitted and used in accordance with the relevant bitting regulations. Riders should always check the latest rule book before competition, as permitted equipment may change.
Our Assessment
The Happy Tongue Full Cheek is an excellent option for riders seeking the generous tongue relief of the Happy Tongue mouthpiece combined with the precision and stability of a Full Cheek. It is particularly well suited to horses that benefit from additional lateral guidance during schooling or those that appreciate a quieter, more consistent contact while maintaining freedom from excessive tongue pressure.
